Ottmar Bauer, born in 1942, is a retired teacher, who has been a member of Writers Ink ever since he won an award for his short story 'The Horrible Power of Words' in the Daniil Pashkoff Prize 2002. In a way Writers Ink, with its workshops, read-ins and social events, has taken the role of his former teaching business - as a constant incentive and inspiration for his writing. Ottmar believes in form. If need be, he takes to rhyming or can end up with a veritable mock epic in blank verse. Another credo of his is that a poem needs to be understood at the first or second reading, or else it's for the dust bin. Ottmar also writes in German: poems, short stories and of late, a teacher's diary covering his last six years at the Heinrich-Nordhoff-Gesamtschule in Wolfsburg.

Kathrin Marquardt, born 1967, loves e.e.cummings, Ted Hughes and Jane Austen. She would give her right arm (and much more) for only one poem as great as Pablo Neruda's poetry. Until that day, she tries to be very patient with her writing.

Spring Poem

The bandages of snow
have been removed:
the earth is unprotected.

Warmth festers everywhere,
fed by a sun
that is relentless yet again.

Through the soil,
flowers are shooting
sharp green stems

And colours force their way
into pure landscapes,
feeding on chastity.

We watch helplessly
as spring spreads life,
unbidden.

Mauricio Menendez Cina, born in Germany 1977 to an Italian mother and an Hispanic father. Chose to study English for the purpose of writing and singing. Was into music from day one. Is currently the lead singer of the progressive rock fusion band Squintaloo (www.squintaloo.de). Loves to come clean. Uses writing as catharsis. Likes writings styles and techniques from out of the Beat Generation, like the essential element number fifteen of Jack Kerouac’s key beliefs and techniques for modern prose: “Telling the true story [your true story] of the world in interior monolog”. A performance of a piece he titled "the rehearsal" and introduced to the audience at the Wilhelm Raabe Literatur Zentrum in 2004 was motivated by this key believe and by Oscar Wilde’s “Picture of Dorian Gray”, Lord Henry’s words to Basil the artist: “[…] never dream of considering whether the dream is right or wrong.” He furthermore studied Shakespeare’s sonnets and eventually set various sonnets, amongst others no. 23, into music.
