Daniil Pashkoff Prize Competition Rules
The Daniil Pashkoff Prize for Creative Writing in English by a Non-Native Speaker is named after the first Russian student to study English at the Technical University of Braunschweig. Its goal is to encourage creative writing in English by writers whose first language is not English and to provide them with a forum where their work will be published and read by others.
Anyone whose mother tongue is not English is eligible to enter.
There are prizes for two age groups: 21- and 21+
as well as for two genres: poetry and prose fiction. |
Poetry refers to any work recognizable as a poem due to rhyme, meter, or arrangement of words on the page, including songs, raps, ballads, haikus, or prose poems. You must submit at least 30 lines but no more than 100 lines. If you prefer short forms, e.g., haiku, you should submit more than one poem.
Prose fiction refers to short stories, dramatic sketches, film scripts, or any genre not written in poetry. You are entitled to submit one text, no longer than 1,200 words. You may submit texts in both categories: poetry and prose. There is no special topic or theme.
Only original work, not published elsewhere, will be considered. When you submit work, you agree to grant Writers Ink. e.V. the rights for first publication. Permanent copyright, however, remains with the author. A collection of selected texts will be published and available at the awards ceremony.
Submit four copies, typed and unsigned, to Writers Ink. e.V. Include a sealed envelope with your name, date of birth, postal address, a two-three sentence biography, telephone number and email address, plus a copy of your text(s) on a disc typed in Microsoft Word (Ariel Narrow 12 pt.).
